Spill About your L-O-V-E !

I just adore April's blog and wanted to link up to her fun series "Spill About your L-O-V-E."

She has posed some relationship questions for everyone to answer, so I thought I'd give it a try and play along.  My blog has always been focused on my little man, Campbell, so now it's time to finally spill on my main man, TC.

{1} Describe your dating life prior to finding your husband/boyfriend/fiance.

Not a ton to report in the dating life prior to hubby.  Had one serious relationship that overlapped high school and the beginning of college and then I was mainly single until I met TC the summer after I graduated from Tulane.  It was love at first sight (or really we say "color" ... inside joke from our pwc days)

{2} Describe your husband/boyfriend/fiance in one word. How would he describe you in one word?
This may be hard to explain, but my word for TC is "magnetic."  He has this magnetic personality that draws people in.  He makes friends everywhere he goes and puts people at ease.  Overall he lives life to the fullest.  He has tons of wonderful qualities but this is my way of summing them all into one!

TC of course wanted to know why I was asking this question.  He said "Maggie-nificent" ... I tried to push him on it but had no such luck.  His second word was "incredible" - I guess I will accept that. :)

{3} You had a really silly fight. Embarrassing silly. What was it about?

Usually most of our fights end in me wondering what even got us started in the first place!  I tend to hold things in and then fall to pieces over something completely trivial... like TC asking me to pick up a paper towel off the kitchen floor, for example.  Yikes.  Sorry babe.

{4} In three sentences (and only three!), describe where you both hope to be in 5 years.

Ha ha well, here lately we hope to be back in our house with everything rebuilt!  We'd like to be more comfortable financially and each enjoying successful careers.  And maybe we'll be crazy enough to have another child too...

{5} Tell us something about your husband/boyfriend/fiance we wouldn't know from reading your blog.

Well, that's a tough one since you probably don't know much about TC from reading my blog.  He has a crazy sense of humor... whenever we meet new people I have to explain that he's joking because he will tell them all kinds of wild things about me and they'll think he's being serious.  He told my boss I'm an expert violinist.  Yeah, I'm not kidding.

{6} What's one thing you never thought you'd do in front of your husband/boyfriend/fiance, but you did?

This doesn't exactly fit how the question was worded but I would say having a baby would be one thing that I thought would be a lot different.  Obviously I knew I would have my husband present... just thought he'd be much more hands off and wouldn't see anything.  After looking back, I was crazy to think that ... no way that was possible.  Everyone saw everything! :)

Thursday Night Scare

I was planning to do another 'Friday Happies' post last week but after Thursday night's events that wasn't happening.  My flight was delayed a couple hours coming home from San Francisco so I wasn't in the best mood to start.  Then on the flight I get a message from TC that said "A tree just fell on our house."  Panic mode, commence.  I knew there were strong storms moving through the Atlanta area but I didn't realize just how bad they were.  I'm scouring the internet looking for information while waiting for TC to respond to my 5 million questions with the first and most important one being "where is Campbell?"  I have never been so anxious in my life.  TC let me know they were safe but I didn't learn all the details until later that night when I arrived.

It was confirmed that an EF 1 tornado moved through our neighborhood leaving quite the path of destruction.  There were probably 10 trees down on our street alone.  Here is the one that wreaked havoc on our house -

The tree fell on the back of the house and ripped off all the gutters and roof line.  It broke the window in Campbell's room.

It came to rest on (and demolished) what used to be our screened-in porch and deck.

As bad as this looks, the inside of our home might be worse.  The amount of water damage is unreal, so the contractors have already begun ripping out drywall to prevent mold.  Needless to say we have been in a hotel ever since Thursday and probably won't be living in our house for a while.

All of this is extremely inconvenient, but I am just SO thankful for my family.  TC and his mom were so smart during the storm, which hit right around Campbell's bedtime.  They kept him awake with them instead of putting him to bed.  Of course my mind has gone to all sorts of bad "what-if" places but this one with Campbell is probably the most frequent especially since the impact of the tree centered on his bedroom.  I am so thankful that my mother-in-law Linda was there and was able to take care of Campbell while TC took care of the house.  And speaking of, my husband is a rock star.  He got his mom and Campbell to a safe place just as the tree was falling.  He moved furniture and picked up things off the floor to salvage our belongings.  He put down towels and buckets to mitigate some of the water damage.  He has been my rock during this situation.

TC, I love you so much and am so thankful for you.  You are such an amazing daddy to our little Campbell.  Happy Father's Day!  And Happy Father's Day to my wonderful Dad and father-in-law Tom.  I am blessed with very special men in my life - I love you all!

17 Months

This post brought to you from the air...  I'm on my way to San Francisco (for work, but still excited because it's my first time to California)!  Thanks to the fine folks at Delta for making this possible :)

So time is really flying by these days.  I think being back in the office and busy with work has made life take off at warp speed.  Campbell is changing so much and I just can't believe he's now 17 months old.

Writing this update has made me realize that I am doing a horrible job at taking good pictures of Campbell (with my FANCY camera my sweet hubby bought me for Christmas).  I usually just whip out the iPhone and snap what I can because let's be honest - Campbell doesn't sit still for very long, if at all.  I'm going to make an effort to take more photos with my Nikon going forward.  Family - please hold me to it.

Campbell is so funny these days.  This is the face he made when I flipped the camera around and told him to say cheese.  (He's also got a mouth full of teeth as you can see)

Also, most of my pictures turn out like this because he's constantly in motion.  I guess it's a boy thing... whew!  I'm tired just thinking about it!

He's a little parrot these days so we're on high alert for what we say around him.  He likes to imitate the way we sit, laugh, you name it.  He loves climbing all over us and bouncing like he's riding a horse.  Campbell is a very affectionate little guy ... I just love his hugs and kisses.  He makes a funny noise when he goes in for a kiss, like "mmmmm"!

Last weekend TC and I took him to check out the neighborhood pool.  It was so much fun, we had beautiful weather and Campbell loved it!  The pool had a baby pool area, splash pad and lots of sprayers/fountains.  He loved watching the big boys play, especially when they jumped off the diving board.

Daddy & C cruising around the pool

Campbell has graduated to the Toddler room at school and I've noticed recently that he likes to feed himself.  He needs some assistance getting food on the spoon but then he's pretty good at getting it to his mouth.  He can be a picky eater but recently has seemed a bit more adventurous.  He will definitely let us know if he doesn't want to eat something.  He's a pro at shaking his head and saying "NO!"

The summer is off to a great start and we're looking forward to much more fun with our little guy.  We've got a couple of trips coming up in July, and I can't wait to see what Campbell thinks of the beach and ocean!  Should be much different from his first experience last summer.

Have a great week friends!

Friday "Happies"

Since I haven't blogged in a while, I thought I'd link up today with a few of my favorite bloggers for a little "5 on Friday" action.  Here are 5 of my little "happies" this week ...

1. My best friend Karen got engaged a few weeks ago, and on Monday the sweetest card came in the mail.

Yes!  Would not miss it for the world, obviously.
I love real mail and this little card could not have been any cuter. Karen and I have been best friends since high school.  We just have one of those easy, effortless friendships that no matter how long it's been, we always pick right back up where we left off.  She and her fiancee, Mac, live in Denver.  I went on a skiing excursion with her a few years ago and can't wait to get back out there soon!  I'm so excited for what the next year brings - lots of celebrations and lots of quality time with my Karen.

already plotting this girl's bachelorette extravaganza!

2. Ice cream dates with my boys are the best.  I may be planning another one for this weekend... there's just something about summer and ice cream/frozen yogurt that go hand in hand.  I snapped this little pic last Sunday when Campbell had his first cone of Superman ice cream from the Frosty Caboose.  If you can't tell, he liked it.

3. More happy news from a dear friend recently.  It didn't technically happen this week but I'm just now getting around to sharing.  My college roommate Emily had a baby girl, Penelope Rose, on May 22.  I cannot wait to get down to Louisiana and get my hands on this little lady.

4. I started Sheryl Sandberg's book 'Lean In' and am so excited to continue reading.  I have a work trip to San Francisco next week and expect to finish it on one of my flights.  A special thanks to my friends Meghan and Meredith for catching me up to speed on the Lean In movement.  Pretty inspiring!  www.leanin.org

5.  Million Dollar Listing New York is my guilty pleasure show for summer.  New York real estate fascinates me, and I just love visiting that city.  While watching the show I've been known to day dream about what kind of posh pad we'd be living in up there.  Maybe someday... a girl can dream! :)

What's making you happy this week?!

All Hail to the Graduate!

Wow - what a blur the past two years have been!  TC has officially graduated from Duke's Fuqua School of Business with his MBA.  I'm so proud of him ... what a huge accomplishment.  We had a great time celebrating our graduate in Durham.  TC's whole family (parents, grandmother, brother and sister-in-law) made the trip so it was really special.

The commencement ceremony took place at famed Cameron Indoor Stadium followed by a reception in the Fox Center at Fuqua.  Later that evening we went to a wonderful catered party at the Breedens' home, a good friend of TC's from Duke.  It was quite a big day!

Congratulations TC!  We are so proud of you and love you so much.

One Shoe

Have you heard that... one shoe can change your life?

Well, this little guy certainly has.  My heels were an interesting distraction the other night when we got home. That is until he accidentally dropped one of them on his foot... Ouch!

How does Mommy walk in these things?!

Don't take my picture!!

He's a mess!  And so much fun (most of the time).  I'm glad I was able to capture this funny little moment.  :)

Speaking of shoes, a couple of weekends ago we went shopping and bought Campbell two new pairs of shoes.  He got some New Balance tennis shoes because he is wearing his current pair of Stride Rites out (he basically wears them everyday).  They've held up really well though... he just needed another pair as reinforcement.

We also got him a little pair of brown sandals by See Kai Run.

I wasn't sure if he'd ever get to wear them since it's been unseasonably chilly here lately, but luckily we had warm weather Saturday in Durham for Daddy's graduation.  Campbell sported his "man-dals" and I have to say, he wore them well.  They seemed to hold up great for all the running around Cameron Indoor stadium  he did during the ceremony.

Hmmm... maybe I'll go to Duke one day

What other shoes should Campbell sport this summer?  He has some blue Tiny Toms, but they don't stay on his feet that well.  We need function and style, as he's an active little boy.

Linking up with Kelly, Lindsay and Megan for Trendy Tot Tuesday!

More Graduation pics to come later this week...
